FAQ

Common questions about IP blocks & removal

General
The Thexyz IP Blocklist Checker cross-references your IP address against six sources simultaneously: Thexyz Email, YMOZ SOGo webmail (Fail2Ban), Thexyz Web App Blocklist, Thexyz Firewall Blocklist, ThreatFox by abuse.ch, and AlienVault OTX. Results are returned in real time.
The most common cause is repeated failed login attempts to a Thexyz email account, webmail interface, or account portal. Automated security tools such as Fail2Ban detect these patterns and block the offending IP automatically. Blocks can also be applied manually for suspicious or fraudulent activity.
Your current IP address is pre-filled in the search box when you load the page. You can check it immediately by clicking "Scan IP", or replace it with any other IPv4 or IPv6 address you want to look up.
Some blocklists use time-based expiry, meaning the block will lift automatically after a set window (often 1–24 hours). If you need immediate access, use the appropriate removal tool for the system in question. For third-party lists like ThreatFox and AlienVault OTX, delisting timelines are controlled by those platforms.
Removal
If your IP appears as blocked in Thexyz Email, use the Instant Removal button shown on the result card. You will be taken to the IP Removal Tool where you can verify your identity via a one-time code sent to your authorized email address. Removal is processed immediately after verification.
YMOZ SOGo blocks are managed separately. Click the "Open YMOZ Instant Removal" button on the result card to visit bl.ymoz.com, where you can submit a removal request directly.
These lists are reviewed manually by the Thexyz security team. Click the "Open Ticket" button on the relevant result card to submit a pre-filled support request. Include any context about why you believe the block was triggered in error.
These are independent third-party threat intelligence platforms. Thexyz has no control over their data. To request removal from ThreatFox, visit threatfox.abuse.ch and follow their delisting process. For AlienVault OTX, log into your OTX account, locate the relevant pulse, and contact the pulse author or OTX support directly.
Technical
Each IP address is limited to 10 checks per hour. This limit applies per visitor IP to prevent automated abuse of the lookup service. The remaining check count is displayed at the top of the search area.
Yes. You can enter both IPv4 (e.g. 203.0.113.1) and IPv6 (e.g. 2001:db8::1) addresses. Not all backend sources index IPv6 addresses equally — results will indicate if a source returned no data for an IPv6 lookup.
When you submit a removal request, a six-digit one-time code is generated and sent to the authorized email address on file for your mailbox domain. You must enter this code within 15 minutes to confirm the request. After five incorrect attempts the session is invalidated and you must start again.
An error result means the checker was unable to reach that particular source — this could be a temporary API outage, a misconfigured credential, or a network timeout. It does not mean your IP is blocked in that system. Try again in a few minutes or contact support if the error persists.
